SNIM: Engine of the National Economy

For over sixty years, the Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM) has held a central position in the Mauritanian economy. In 2024, the company generated revenue of $1.15 billion, contributing to more than 6% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 11% of the state's budgetary income, thus consolidating its position as the country's economic and fiscal pillar.

SNIM accounts for nearly 30% of the total volume of national exports through its international iron ore exports, particularly to Asian, African, and European markets.

It is also Mauritania's largest private employer, with over 6,700 direct jobs. Its activity sustains an entire ecosystem of local businesses, with more than 170 national suppliers in its service and over 4,000 indirect jobs generated. This network is further enriched by a group of about 10 SNIM subsidiaries operating in various fields and offering an additional 2,000 jobs.

At a turning point in its history, SNIM aspires to become a regional mining hub through a new Strategic Business Plan (SBP). This plan aims to:

1. Increase its production

2. Diversify its activities

3. Integrate downstream into the iron processing chain

To achieve these objectives, SNIM relies on solid assets:

- High-quality mineral reserves

- Efficient existing infrastructure

- Significant potential in renewable energies

These advantages favorably position the company in a market context conducive to the decarbonization of the steel industry.
